After the Battle of Ojinaga in December 1914, between 4,000 and 5,000 Mexican refugees – civilians and federal soldiers – marched the sixty miles from Presidio to Marfa over a three day period. From Marfa, the refugees were transported in box cars to Fort Bliss in El Paso.
